The sociology major begins with an interest in people. It’s about how we cope; what influences our behavior; how, together or as individuals, we preserve or change the social order. This falls under the global politics and societies (GPS) department which includes four separate major programs of study in sociology, religious studies, political science, and international studies and one minor program of study in social justice.

The Hollins sociology major explores broad social questions and issues. In classes and in the field, you’ll consider such questions as: How does society work? How does it affect the individual? How can individuals and groups start positive personal and social change?
