Students enjoy the outdoor living space at the Student Apartment Village.
The Student Apartment Village, located atop the crest of the Hollins campus, is the university’s latest addition to a vibrant and diverse mix of housing options. The village will eventually offer 10 home-style residences, single and double bedrooms along with communal living spaces, kitchens, private bathrooms, washers and dryers, and wrap-around front porches overlooking a shared outdoor space.
Designed to bring more students into the main heart of campus – close to classes, dining options, extracurricular activities, and athletic events – the village is being built incorporating environmentally sustainable practices while complementing the bucolic beauty of a historic campus.
Phase I was completed and opened for students in the fall of 2019, offering four houses and accommodating 40 students. Phase II continued with three more homes for 28 students which opened for students in the fall of 2020, with the final three homes to be added in the near future.
Phase II: Completing the Village
This incredible addition to the Hollins campus experience is thanks entirely to donations and support from alumnae/i and friends of the school. As noted below by the students, the Hollins community is incredibly grateful for these gifts.
Funding is still being secured for the final three homes of Phase II, and naming opportunities are available for interested donors. If you would like to support this bold and forward-thinking approach to supporting the next generation of Hollins students, please contact Vice President of External Relations Suzy Mink ’74.

Fall 2019 Occupancy
With an aggressive schedule and significant progress being made, Phase I was ready for residential students in fall 2019. Leading up to the housing lottery for the 2019-20 academic year, students were very excited about the possibility of securing a spot in what has quickly become the most desirable housing option on campus. Students moved in before the beginning of the 2019-20 academic year.
Support for Phase II
We are pleased to announce that The Cabell Foundation of Richmond, VA has provided a grant of $400,000 to support the Phase II construction of the new student apartment village. The grant required a 3:1 match, and we successfully raised an additional $1.2 M to receive the grant in June 2020.
