Jeanne Jégousso is assistant professor of French and Francophone studies. Her areas of specialization include the French Speaking Caribbean and Indian Ocean, Louisiana Literature and Folklore, Cultural Anthropology, and Postcolonial Studies. In August 2020, she co-edited the collective volume Teaching, Reading, and Theorizing Caribbean Texts (Lexington Books, 2020). She is the author of several peer-reviewed articles on the work of Édouard Glissant, Alfred Alexandre, as well as Haitian literary journals and poetry. She is the director of the online journal Mondesfrancophones. In addition, she is the cofounder and codirector of the Library of Glissant Studies, a digital project dedicated to the work of and on Martinican author Edouard Glissant (1928-2011). In December 2020, Jégousso was awarded the Laura Bassi Scholarship for her first book project entitled La poétique du dépassement. Pour une nouvelle critique des littératures antillaises et indianocéaniques contemporaines, in which she proposes a new approach to theorizing contemporary Francophone literatures.
As the French House and French Club advisor at Hollins, she is looking forward to helping the students make French language and Francophone cultures an essential part of the academic experience on campus.
