New assistant swim coach Rachel Spaulding comes to Hollins from the University of Lynchburg, where she participated in relaunching the swim program and helped recruit more than 30 swimmers to both the men’s and women’s teams.
“I am confident that Erin brings the right mix of experience in coaching and recruiting, and a strong commitment to the successful mentorship and development of young women,” said Hollins Director of Athletics Myra Sims.
After graduating this spring, DeVarona will begin her Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in communication and marketing at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She plans to become a health communication specialist.
Chi Alpha Sigma honors college student-athletes who participate in a sport at the varsity intercollegiate level, achieve junior academic standing or higher after their fifth full time semester, and earn a 3.4 or higher cumulative grade point average.
Green comes to Hollins from the University of Lynchburg, where he’s been a graduate assistant swim coach since August 2019. He played an important role on a coaching staff that was named ODAC Coaching Staff of the Year for 2021. Previously, he was a standout swimmer at Widener University.
Any time between April 5 and 12, in any location around the world, the 5k can be run, jogged, or walked on the road, trail, or treadmill, at the gym or on the track. The cost to participate is $25, and all proceeds benefit the Hollins University Athletic Department.
Hollins will not participate in women’s volleyball, women’s soccer, women’s indoor track and field, or women’s lacrosse. In December, the university announced it was canceling women’s basketball for the 2021 season.
“Robert Sullivan Jr.’s experience as a high school coach, his strong leadership skills, and his diligent approach make him a great fit for Hollins,” said Director of Athletics Myra Sims. “Our student-athletes will enjoy tremendous benefit from having access to him on a full-time basis.”
In just their first season of competition, Hollins’ indoor track and field team has been named a 2020 Division III All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
A VHSL Coach of the Year who has captured district, region, and state championships, Dave McGee has earned success coaching at both the high school and club levels.
